Japanese wood panel decorated with a Pekinese dog scratching his chin, inlaid with mother-of-pearl, bone and ivory, signed in a square seal Ōki 大木, late Meiji Period.
The ancient breed of Pekinese dog were held sacred in ancient China and for centuries could only be owned by members of the Chinese Imperial court.
